What are the documents I have to upload during Online Application?
GATE qualified candidates and IIT B.Tech. Graduates should upload the following documents (as applicable). For detailed information on file size etc., refer to Information Brochure (Page – 6): 1. (Note that Ration Card/ Aadhar Card/ PAN Card/ Domicile Certificates are not authentic proof for Nationality. Therefore, please do not upload them) 3. PwD Certificate in the case of PwD candidates. 4. SC/ ST Certificate in the case of SC/ ST Candidates. 5. OBC-NCL Certificate (issued on or after 01 April 2020) in the case of OBC-NCL (non-creamy layer) Candidates. 6. EWS Certificate (issued on or after 01 April 2020) in the case of EWS Candidates. 7. List of Courses and Syllabus in case of Candidates with ZE/ZS Disciplines. 8. Grade card / Mark sheets till date for all Semesters 9. Upload your valid GATE Score Card.
After completing the application form, you can take a printout for your reference. There is NO need to send the hard copy to IIT Madras.
I have more than one valid GATE scorecards for the same paper/different paper. Which scorecard shall I submit?
You may apply with a valid Gate score of GATE 2019, 2020 and 2021 . A separate application form needs to be submitted for each GATE score.
Is there any limit on the number of programmes one can apply to?
What is HTTA? Are there any other fellowship schemes available?
1. Financial assistance in the form of a Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) will be awarded to Indian Nationals doing the M.Tech Programmes, subject to the Institute rules. HTTA students are required to assist the Department for 8 hours of work per week related to the Department academic activities, such as laboratory demonstration, tutorials, evaluation of assignments, test papers, seminars, research projects, etc. The number of seats available under HTTA is indicated in Table 1.

Can I change or swap the preferences after submitting the application?
NO. You cannot change or swap the order of preferences after submitting the Online Application. Therefore, you should be extremely careful in selecting your preferences.
I do not have a valid Nationality Certificate. How do I apply?
You can apply by clicking the declaration check box available in the M.Tech Admission portal to submit the certificate later but before the date of admission.
(a) I do not have a valid SC/ ST category certificate. How do I apply?
Until you upload a valid certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.
(b) I do not have a valid OBC-NCL certificate. How do I apply?
1. You can apply by clicking the declaration check box available in the M.Tech Admission portal to submit the certificate later, however, before the date of admission.
2. Until you upload a valid OBC-NCL certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.
(c) I do not have a valid EWS certificate. How do I apply?
1.You can apply by clicking the declaration check box available in the application form portal to submit the certificate later before the date of admission.
2. Until you upload a valid EWS certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.
(d) I do not have a valid PwD certificate. How do I apply?
Until you upload a valid PwD certificate, you will be considered for admission under General Category, provided your GATE score is equal to or greater than General Category cut-off.
I am a PwD candidate. What is the eligibility criteria to apply for M.Tech admission?
Persons with Disability (PwD): For PwD candidates with any category of disability, the benefit will be given to only those who have at least 40% permanent physical impairment in relation to a body part/ system/ extremity/ whole body, etc.
Such candidates must upload a valid Certificate of Disability from the authorized medical board attached to one of the following: Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (VRC) for Physically Handicapped persons/ Special Employment Exchange for Physically Handicapped/ Government Hospital (District and State level).
I do not have my final examination result/mark sheet? How can I apply?
Please upload all the grade card/mark sheets available to date and submit the final result before the date of admission.
In case of delay in getting the final exam results before the date of admission due to the current Covid19 pandemic, candidates can get a letter from their Head of the Department / Institute confirming the same.
